What Being a Mom Means to Me

Since becoming a Mom, I love Mother's Day almost as much as my birthday!

I ❤️ Fairy Tales!

Valentine's Day is always a mixed bag of emotions for me. I remember the first time I hated this pseudo-holiday: February 14th, 1981. I also remember the first time I loved this holiday: February 14th, 1999.

Resolution Regrets

New Year's resolutions always seemed ridiculous to me. Never one to put too much pressure on myself, I figured if I haven't worked on the resolution during the year, it couldn't have been that important to me. So each year, I just say NO.

Boo! Don’t share that!!!

I have a confession, I have always hated Halloween. Don't get me wrong, I like the candy part but it was the dressing up I always found odd. I think it harkens back to my parents telling me that I am perfect just the way I am and I actually believed them. So, why pretend to be someone else?

Let’s talk Super Lice.

The media is at it again, talking about these little buggers and their new super genetic DNA. The study, presented in August 2015 at the American Chemical Society meeting, states that, of the 109 populations of head lice collected in 30 states, 95% (104 populations) contained lice that have the resistant gene.

To My Mother on Mother’s Day

It's time to thank my Mom for molding me into the crazy person I am.

Each day that I manage to keep our business running, the children fed and dressed, the dog walked, food on the table and do a quick stop and wave to my husband on the staircase, I thank my Mom for making me strong, independent and wonderfully comfortable in my own, kooky skin.

Hey Mom, Did You Miss Fashion Week?

Every winter, fashionistas descend on NYC and strut the runway in clothes that fit well...

On a hanger. Trends launch from the fashion editors’ desks, but what impact do these trends have on us, regular moms? I'm going out on a limb to say… absolutely nothing.

What... Is it January Again Already?

It's that time of year again – you know what I mean – New Year's Resolutions!

Personally, I’m not a big fan. At my age, I’ve earned the right to say “meh” to any big, life altering changes. I’ve come to understand that I need to like myself just as I am. Now, don't get me wrong, every January 1st I say, "I'm on a diet." However, when I have ice cream on January 2nd I don't beat myself up about it.

We Can't Do Everything

Staying Sane this Holiday Season

Running a business, caring for my family and staying relatively sane are enough for me. The arrival of the holiday season can begin to feel like a race to Hades if I am not careful with my yes responses. In years past, I have said yes too much and then ended the year exhausted and kinda crazy. Not this year. I am committed to saying no - or else I might be committed. To begin with, I ruled out Black Friday shopping. I said no to the crowds and the chaos. Instead I opted to shop Cyber Monday sales from the comfort of my home, a glass of wine in hand. I especially love the stores that extend Cyber Monday all weekend- great excuse to sit at home and not even comb your hair!.

I Love Fall...

Don’t Fear the Lice Letter

I love the leaves changing color and the crisp, clean air. I love wearing boots and sweaters. With fall comes one thing I don’t love…that dreaded letter from the school nurse. You know the letter, the one that throws us into a tizzy, interrupts our daily schedules, stops afterschool play dates and inevitably signals the time to switch from Rosé to Merlot. And I’m not talking the 23rd letter referencing lunches, back to school night, school pictures, sports schedules, reading lists or the dreaded Yankee Candle fundraiser.

Let's Talk About Mutant Super Lice...

For the last few weeks, the media has been saturated with articles claiming the emergence of mutant super lice! Summer Camp Essentials

Children’s hair can be a real problem over the summer.

Let’s face it...so can ours. Sun mixed with pool and lake water can damage the hair, stripping it of oils and nutrients. Outbreaks of lice remain prevalent, as kids are in close proximity to one another, sharing sporting equipment, combs, towels, etc.

Venture Outdoors & Keep the Bugs Away

Spring will eventually be here to stay, I am told.
I’m beginning to doubt Mother Nature. We’re not too close, she and I.

I’ll be honest… I’m not much of a nature buff. I could lie and say I happily wake each morning to the songs of birds. I immediately and joyfully leap out of bed and dance down our sunlit stairs. I slip on my well-worn sneakers and venture out for a run on the morning dew-lined streets, beaming and grateful to be alive.

This is not my morning fairy tale–never was, never will be.

Spring Break/Hitting the Road or Hunkering Down

Remember when Spring Break meant parties, beaches and bikinis?

We all have college memories–albeit blurry—of wild nights on the beaches or the slopes. I am probably not alone when I say, I’m grateful I made it through those vacations in one piece. The fact that I survived Spring Break 1988 is a freakin’ miracle! Let’s leave it at that!

Snow Day / Storming the Castle

We all have seen our kid’s excitement when they wake up to a blanket of white snow, begging for the announcement—Snow Day!

For kids, Snow Day means no school, all day play and non-stop hot chocolate charged fun. But for us, Snow Day means something else and sometimes our “day off” can get a little complicated.
